Earlier this afternoon, Binghamton University Police responded to a reported stabbing incident in the school’s Science I building, according to the university’s Web site. After report of the incident, which took place at 1:41 p.m EST, school officials advised students to stay away from the building. As of 4 p.m. EST, events and classes in Science I were cancelled for the day while both state and university police examined the site and processed evidence.

While the Binghamton University Web site did identify anyone involved in the stabbing incident, the Ithaca Journal is reporting that Richard Antoun, an anthropology professor, is the reported victim. The Journal received the information through faculty members via the Press Connects Web site. Faculty also said that Antoun was allegedly stabbed by a graduate student, though no other sources have identified a suspect.

According to the Journal, Professor Antoun was stabbed “four times with a 6-inch kitchen blade inside a campus office,” and that students were notified of the incident via text message.

Professor Antoun’s condition is currently unknown, though the Journal reported that he has suffered a collapsed lung.

The Journal has more details of the alleged incidents, including students’ reaction, here.
